Indications:
COSEC MUPS 20 mg is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks.

  • Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers: 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks; in severe cases, twice daily.

  • NSAID-induced Ulcers: 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks.

  • Reflux Esophagitis: 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks; in severe cases, twice daily.

  • Helicobacter pylori Eradication: 20 mg twice daily for 1 week in combination with appropriate antibiotics.

  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 60 mg once daily; usual maintenance 20–120 mg daily.

Pharmacology:
COSEC MUPS 20 mg contains omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the parietal cell surface, effectively reducing stomach acid production.

Dosage:

  • Adults: 20 mg once daily, preferably in the morning, before meals.

  • Children (over 2 years): 20 mg once daily for 2–4 weeks for acid regurgitation in GERD.

Administration:
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush. If swallowing is difficult, dissolve the tablet in a glass of water (do not use other liquids), stir until disintegrated, and drink within 30 minutes.

Interaction:
COSEC MUPS 20 mg is metabolized through the CYP2C19 enzyme. Concomitant use with drugs metabolized by CYP2C19 may require dose adjustments. Inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking.

Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any component of the formulation.

Side Effects:
Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness. Serious side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions, liver dysfunction, and electrolyte imbalances.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation when used at therapeutic doses. Consult your healthcare provider before use.

Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with severe liver dysfunction or renal impairment. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, magnesium deficiency, and increased risk of bone fractures.
