Indications:
FUREX 70 ML is used for the treatment of:
Edema (fluid retention) caused by conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and kidney disease.
Hypertension (high blood pressure) either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
It works by increasing urine production, which helps eliminate excess fluid and lowers blood pressure.
Pharmacology:
FUREX contains Furosemide, a loop diuretic that acts on the kidneys to inhibit sodium and chloride reabsorption, particularly in the loop of Henle. This results in increased urine production, which helps remove excess fluid and salt from the body. This action reduces edema and helps lower blood pressure.
Dosage:
Adults: The usual dose is 20-80 mg daily, depending on the condition being treated. This may be adjusted up to 600 mg/day in severe cases, based on a doctor’s recommendation.
For hypertension, the usual dose is 40 mg daily, which can be adjusted based on individual response.
Children: Dosing is based on body weight and the severity of the condition. A typical dose for children is 1-2 mg/kg of body weight, divided into two doses per day.
Administration:
Shake the bottle well before use.
Administer the prescribed dose using the provided measuring spoon or dropper.
Take the liquid form with or without food, as directed by your doctor.
It is typically taken once or twice a day, and the dosage may vary based on the patient’s condition.
Interaction:
FUREX 70 ML may interact with other medications, including:
Other antihypertensive drugs (may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect).
Lithium (may increase the risk of lithium toxicity).
Digoxin (may increase the risk of arrhythmias).
Corticosteroids (may increase the risk of low potassium levels).
NSAIDs (may reduce the effectiveness of furosemide).
Always inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are currently taking.
Contraindications:
FUREX should not be used in the following situations:
Hypersensitivity to furosemide or other sulfonamide-based drugs.
Severe kidney dysfunction or anuria (lack of urination).
Electrolyte imbalances (such as low potassium or sodium).
Severe dehydration or hypotension (low blood pressure).
Liver disease (use with caution).
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
Increased urination (common and expected).
Dizziness, headache, fatigue, and dehydration.
Low potassium (hypokalemia), low sodium (hyponatremia), and low blood pressure (hypotension).
Serious side effects (less common) may include:

Seek immediate medical attention if any severe side effects occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Furosemide is classified as Category C. It should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed, and the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Consult your doctor.
