Indications:
Dimerol 80mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, either alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, to improve glycemic control.
Pharmacology:
Glimepiride stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.
Dosage:
Initial dose usually 1-2 mg once daily with breakfast.
Dose may be adjusted up to 8 mg daily based on blood sugar response and tolerance.
Administration:
Oral administration once daily, preferably with breakfast. Swallow tablets whole.
Interaction:
May interact with other antidiabetic drugs, beta-blockers, diuretics, corticosteroids, and alcohol. Monitor blood glucose regularly.
Contraindications:
Type 1 diabetes
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Known hypersensitivity to sulfonylureas
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include hypoglycemia, nausea, dizziness, headache, and weight gain.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Consult physician before use in breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for hypoglycemia symptoms.
Use caution in hepatic or renal impairment.
Adjust dose in elderly patients.
