Astaxanthin acts as a potent antioxidant by:
Suppressing singlet oxygen
Inhibiting lipid peroxidation
These actions reduce harmful free radicals, making Astaxanthin a very strong antioxidant. It is absorbed by passive diffusion into the intestinal epithelium alongside fatty acids, incorporated into lipoproteins, transported to the liver, and partly resecreted with lipoproteins. Over 70% of Astaxanthin is contained in high-density lipoprotein part of plasma. The highest concentration is in the small intestine, followed by subcutaneous fat, spleen, liver, heart, kidney, and skin.
Adults (18 years and older):
4 mg daily: Strong antioxidant, improves cardiovascular health, and boosts immune function.
4–8 mg daily: Improves skin condition, protects skin from sun damage, aids in recovery from central nervous system injuries, and protects eyes from cataracts and macular degeneration.
8–12 mg daily: Reduces inflammation, particularly in arthritis.
16 mg daily: Reduces risk of infertility
Take 1 capsule daily along with or immediately prior to meals in the morning, or as directed by a registered physician.
Concomitant intake with Cholestyramine, Colestipol, Mineral oil, or Orlistat may reduce the absorption rate of Astaxanthin.

No severe side effects have been reported yet.
Both pregnant women and lactating mothers should avoid Astaxanthin supplements due to insufficient safety data.
