Indications:
Treatment of hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and prevention of cardiovascular disease in high-risk patients.
Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver, leading to reduced LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and modestly increased HDL cholesterol.
Dosage:
Typically, 10 mg once daily, adjusted based on patient response and lipid levels.
Administration:
Oral administration with or without food. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with cyclosporine, warfarin, fibrates, and certain antivirals. Monitor for muscle pain or weakness.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin, active liver disease, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include headache, muscle pain, abdominal pain, nausea, and elevated liver enzymes.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
