Indications:
FOLY 5 MG is used for the prevention and treatment of folic acid deficiency, which can lead to anemia, weakness, and other health issues. It is also recommended during pregnancy to reduce the risk of neural tube defects in the fetus.
Pharmacology:
FOLY contains Folic Acid, a water-soluble B vitamin (Vitamin B9). Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis, cell division, and the production of red blood cells. It helps in the formation of normal neural tube development during pregnancy.
Dosage:
The typical dose for adults is 5 mg once daily or as prescribed by the physician.
For pregnant women, 5 mg may be recommended to prevent neural tube defects.
Administration:
Take the tablet orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Follow the prescribed dose and frequency as advised by your doctor.
Interaction:
Folic acid may interact with certain medications, including anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin, phenobarbital), methotrexate, and sulfasalazine, which can interfere with its absorption or effectiveness. Always inform your doctor about other medications you're taking.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to folic acid or any of the tablet’s excipients.
Use cautiously in patients with vitamin B12 deficiency, as folic acid may mask symptoms of this deficiency.
Side Effects:
Folic acid is generally well-tolerated, but some people may experience mild side effects such as nausea, bloating, or an allergic rash. Rarely, high doses may cause sleep disturbances or irritability.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Folic acid is crucial during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects. It is considered safe during lactation as well. Pregnant women should follow their doctor’s advice for the appropriate dosage.
Therapeutic Class:
Vitamin supplement; Water-soluble vitamin (B9).
