Indications:
Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
Chronic urticaria (hives)
Atopic dermatitis
Allergic conjunctivitis
Other allergic conditions causing itching and swelling
Pharmacology:
Cetirizine hydrochloride is a second-generation H1 antihistamine. It selectively inhibits peripheral H1 receptors, preventing histamine action and reducing allergy symptoms with minimal sedation.
Dosage:
Adults and children above 12 years: 10 mg once daily (some brands may have 5 mg or 20 mg formulations; adjust accordingly)
Dose adjustment may be required in renal impairment
Administration:
Oral tablet, with or without food
Swallow whole with water
Maintain regular dosing schedule for best effect
Interaction:
Minimal interactions; caution with CNS depressants
Avoid alcohol as it may increase drowsiness
Use caution with other sedative medications
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to cetirizine or hydroxyzine
Severe renal impairment (dose adjustment needed)
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth
