Indications:
Used for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) to improve urinary flow and reduce symptoms.
Pharmacology:
Dutasteride inhibits 5-alpha reductase enzymes, decreasing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which reduces prostate size.
Dosage:
Usually 0.5 mg once daily or as prescribed by physician.
Administration:
Oral administration with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with other hormonal therapies; inform your doctor of all medications.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to dutasteride or any components.
Women, children, and pregnant women (teratogenic risk).
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and breast tenderness.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated in pregnancy; women who are or may become pregnant should avoid handling capsules.
