Indications:
HEPANOR 70 MG is indicated for:
Chronic hepatitis B: Used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults with evidence of active viral replication and liver inflammation.
It helps in lowering the level of hepatitis B virus in the blood, reduces liver damage, and supports liver function.
Pharmacology:
HEPANOR contains Telbivudine, a nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Telbivudine works by inhibiting the replication of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) within liver cells. This reduction in viral replication helps in preventing further liver damage and supports liver health by lowering the viral load in the bloodstream.
Dosage:
Adults: The typical dose is 70 mg once daily, taken orally.
The dosage may be adjusted based on your healthcare provider’s recommendation, especially in the case of kidney problems.
It is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage and take the medication regularly at the same time each day.
Administration:
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
It can be taken with or without food.
Try to take it at the same time each day to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Interaction:
Adefovir, lamivudine, emtricitabine, tenofovir: May interact and increase the risk of side effects, especially kidney-related issues.
Cimetidine: May increase telbivudine blood levels, raising the risk of side effects.
Rifampin: May reduce the effectiveness of Telbivudine.
Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are using, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Telbivudine or any of the excipients in the formulation.
Severe liver or kidney disease: Use in such cases may require careful monitoring or adjustment of the dose.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Telbivudine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed, and it should be avoided during breastfeeding unless the benefit outweighs the risk.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
Fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Elevated liver enzymes, indicating liver irritation.
Muscle pain or weakness (myopathy).
Skin rash or allergic reactions in rare cases.
Rare but serious side effects include:
Lactic acidosis (a build-up of lactic acid in the blood), which is a potential risk for patients with liver or kidney dysfunction.
Severe muscle pain or weakness (in cases of combined use with other antiviral agents).
If any of these severe side effects occur, contact a healthcare provider immediately.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: The use of Telbivudine in pregnancy is recommended only if the benefit outweighs the risk. Always consult your doctor before taking any medication during pregnancy.
Lactation: It is not known if Telbivudine passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding mothers should discuss the potential risks and benefits with their healthcare provider before taking this medication.
