Indications:
M KAST 10 MG is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, and prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
Pharmacology:
M KAST contains Montelukast Sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks leukotrienes responsible for inflammation, bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, and allergy symptoms in asthma and allergic rhinitis.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults and adolescents (15 years and older): One 10 mg tablet once daily in the evening. Should be taken regularly, even when the patient is asymptomatic. Not for acute asthma attacks.
Interaction:
May interact with phenobarbital, rifampin, and other enzyme inducers that can reduce its effectiveness. No significant interaction with food.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to montelukast or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include headache, abdominal pain, cough, dizziness, and fatigue. Rare but serious side effects include mood changes, agitation, and suicidal thoughts.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known whether montelukast is excreted in human milk; caution is advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Should not be used for acute asthma attacks. Monitor for neuropsychiatric events. Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
