FLOXALONE is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections including:
Conjunctivitis (eye infections)
Otitis externa (ear infections)
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
It is also effective in treating other bacterial infections as prescribed by the physician.
FLOXALONE contains Ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes involved in bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to the inhibition of bacterial growth and eventual cell death.
For ophthalmic (eye) use:
Apply 1–2 drops into the affected eye every 2–4 hours initially, then reduce frequency as infection improves, as directed by your physician.
For otic (ear) use:
Instill the prescribed number of drops into the affected ear 2–3 times daily as directed.
For oral use (if prescribed):
Typically 200–400 mg once or twice daily, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
For ophthalmic use, wash your hands before applying the drops. Tilt your head back, pull the lower eyelid down, and place the drops into the conjunctival sac without touching the eye with the dropper tip.
For otic use, warm the ear drops to body temperature and instill them into the ear canal.
For oral use, take with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Ofloxacin may interact with other medications such as antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, warfarin, cyclosporine, and other antibiotics. These interactions may affect how the medications work or increase the risk of side effects. Always consult a physician before combining medications.
Hypersensitivity to ofloxacin or any other components in the formulation.
Use with caution in patients with a history of tendon disorders or joint problems, especially in older adults.
Contraindicated in children and adolescents under the age of 18 for oral use, unless advised by a doctor.
Ophthalmic (eye) use: Local irritation, stinging, burning, or redness in the eye.
Otic (ear) use: Ear itching, mild ear discomfort, or a bitter taste.
Oral use: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headaches, and in rare cases, tendonitis or tendon rupture.
Pregnancy: Ofloxacin should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Always consult your doctor before use.
Lactation: Ofloxacin is excreted in breast milk, so it should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Consult your physician before use.
