Indications:
Dialiptin 50mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, to improve glycemic control.
Pharmacology:
Sitagliptin is a selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that prolongs the activity of incretin hormones, leading to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.
Dosage:
Generally, 50 mg once daily, taken with or without food, or as directed by the physician.
Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response.
Administration:
Oral administration. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with other antidiabetic drugs and certain medications like digoxin. Monitor patients closely for hypoglycemia when used in combination therapy.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Sitagliptin
Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
Severe renal impairment (dose adjustment needed)
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated; possible side effects include headache, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, and rare hypoglycemia especially when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Limited data on safety; use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function regularly
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
Educate patients about symptoms of hypoglycemia
Avoid use in type 1 diabetes mellitus
