Indications:
TELMICARD 40MG is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and for reducing cardiovascular morbidity in patients at risk.
Pharmacology:
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents vasoconstriction by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to AT1 receptors, leading to vasodilation and lower blood pressure.
Dosage:
Typical dose: 40 mg once daily, adjustable based on patient response.
Can be used alone or with other antihypertensive agents.
Administration:
Orally, with or without food. Take at the same time daily for best results.
Interaction:
May interact with diuretics, potassium supplements, NSAIDs, lithium, and other antihypertensives. Monitor potassium levels and kidney function regularly.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to telmisartan or any component of the formulation.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (use contraindicated).
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, nausea, and hypotension. Rarely may cause hyperkalemia or renal impairment.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation due to risk of fetal harm.
