Indications:
FUCLAV 250 MG + 62.50 MG is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections including:
Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Skin and soft tissue infections
Otitis media (middle ear infection)
Sinusitis
It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Pharmacology:
FUCLAV contains a combination of Amoxicillin, a penicillin antibiotic, and Clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the destruction of the bacteria.
Clavulanic acid prevents bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases) from breaking down amoxicillin, thus enhancing its effectiveness against resistant strains of bacteria.
Dosage:
Adults and children over 12 years: 1 tablet of FUCLAV 250 MG + 62.50 MG every 12 hours or as directed by the physician.
For children under 12 years, dose adjustments are based on body weight and the severity of the infection.
Administration:
FUCLAV should be taken orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
For optimal absorption, take the medication at evenly spaced intervals.
Interaction:
FUCLAV may interact with other medications including:
Oral contraceptives (may reduce efficacy)
Anticoagulants like warfarin (may increase bleeding risk)
Methotrexate (may increase toxicity)
Probenecid (may increase amoxicillin blood levels)
Always inform your doctor of all other medications you're currently taking.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or any other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Severe liver impairment or history of jaundice related to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid use.
Use cautiously in patients with kidney impairment.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
Gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Skin rashes and allergic reactions
Headache
Serious side effects, although rare, may include liver toxicity, severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
FUCLAV is considered safe during pregnancy (Category B), but should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks.
It is also safe for use during breastfeeding, though monitoring for side effects in the infant is recommended.
