Pharmacology:

Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication. By interfering with these enzymes, Levofloxacin prevents bacteria from replicating and growing, ultimately leading to their death.
Dosage:

The usual adult dose is 500 mg once a day for most infections. The duration of treatment typically varies between 7 to 14 days, depending on the severity and type of infection.

For certain infections, the dose and duration of treatment may be adjusted by the doctor.
Administration:

Levoflox 500 mg should be taken orally with a full glass of water.

It can be taken with or without food, but should not be taken with dairy products, calcium-enriched drinks, or antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, as these may interfere with absorption.
Interaction:

Levoflox can interact with other medications such as antacids, iron supplements, warfarin (a blood thinner), and certain diabetes medications.

Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to avoid interactions.
Contraindications:

Contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and insomnia.

Less common but serious side effects may include tendonitis, tendon rupture, QT prolongation (affecting heart rhythm), and central nervous system effects like seizures or confusion.

Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, are rare but can occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Levoflox should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits justify the risks to the fetus. It is generally contraindicated during pregnancy.

Levofloxacin passes into breast milk, so it is not recommended for use while breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary.
