Indications:
SULFACOL 500 MG is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and certain types of pneumonia. -
Pharmacology:
Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim work synergistically to inhibit sequential steps in bacterial folic acid synthesis, leading to bactericidal effects. -
Dosage:
Typically, one tablet twice daily or as directed by the physician. Duration depends on the type and severity of infection. -
Administration:
Administer orally with a full glass of water, preferably with food to reduce gastrointestinal irritation. -
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants, methotrexate, diuretics, and other medications. Inform your physician about all current medicines. -
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, severe liver or kidney disease, megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency. -
Side Effects:
Rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypersensitivity reactions, photosensitivity, rare blood disorders. -
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed; avoid in the first trimester. Consult your doctor before use during lactation. -
Therapeutic Class:
