Aslor 5 mg Tablet is indicated for:
Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis: Symptoms include sneezing, runny or itchy nose, nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes, and itching in the throat or palate.
Chronic idiopathic urticaria: Provides relief from itching and reduces the size and number of hives.
Desloratadine, the active ingredient in Aslor, is a long-acting, non-sedating, selective peripheral H₁-receptor antagonist. It works by inhibiting the release of histamine from mast cells and basophils, thereby reducing allergic symptoms. Unlike many antihistamines, it does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier, minimizing sedative effects.
Adults and children aged 12 years and above: 5 mg once daily.
Children aged 6–11 years: 2.5 mg once daily.
Children aged 1–5 years: 1.25 mg once daily.
Children aged 6–11 months: 1 mg once daily.
Note: Dosage adjustments may be necessary for individuals with liver or renal impairment.
Aslor 5 mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. It should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
Concomitant use of Aslor with certain medications may increase its plasma concentration:
Erythromycin
Ketoconazole
Azithromycin
Fluoxetine
Cimetidine
Despite increased plasma concentrations, no clinically significant changes in safety profiles have been observed.
Aslor is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to desloratadine, loratadine, or any of the tablet's components.
Common side effects may include:
Headache
Dry mouth
Fatigue
Dizziness
Less common side effects can include:
Nausea
Pharyngitis
Dyspepsia
Myalgia
Serious side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
Pregnancy: Classified as Category C. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Aslor should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
Lactation: Desloratadine passes into breast milk. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
Caution is advised when using Aslor in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Use with caution in elderly patients.
Exercise caution in patients with a history of seizures.
Limit alcohol consumption as it may enhance drowsiness.
Non-sedating antihistamines
