Indications:
Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastric ulcers caused by excess acid.
Pharmacology:
Pantoprazole suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in the stomach lining, leading to decreased acid production.
Dosage:
Typical dose is 20 mg once daily before a meal. Dose and duration depend on the condition and physician’s advice.
Administration:
Orally, preferably before meals. Tablets should be swallowed whole without chewing.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs like ketoconazole, digoxin, and warfarin. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
