Indications:
Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in children
Relief from seasonal allergic rhinitis (e.g., sneezing, nasal congestion)
Prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm
Perennial allergic rhinitis
Pharmacology:
AERON FT 4 MG Tablet contains Montelukast Sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA) that blocks the action of leukotriene D4 at the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor. This helps in reducing bronchoconstriction, airway edema, and inflammation associated with asthma and allergies.
Dosage:
Children aged 2–5 years: 4 mg once daily, preferably in the evening
Should be taken regularly for maximum benefit
Not for acute asthma attacks
Administration:
Oral administration
Can be taken with or without food
Child should be encouraged to swallow the tablet whole
Should be taken at the same time each day for consistency
Interaction:
Minimal significant drug interactions
Use with caution when taken with drugs like phenobarbital or rifampin, which may reduce Montelukast levels
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any excipients in the formulation
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, abdominal pain, sore throat
Rare: Mood changes, agitation, hallucinations, sleep disturbances
Very rare: Liver function abnormalities
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not applicable for adult use; intended for pediatric use only
Use only under pediatric supervision
Precautions & Warnings:
Not a rescue medication for acute asthma
Monitor for unusual behavior or neuropsychiatric symptoms
Continue regular asthma control measures
Inform physician if no improvement within a few weeks
