Indications:
ROVAST 20 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Treating hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia.
Lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with high cardiovascular risk.
Preventing cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes.
Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin selectively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, a crucial enzyme in hepatic cholesterol synthesis. By reducing LDL cholesterol and raising HDL cholesterol, it helps prevent atherosclerosis and associated complications.
Dosage and Administration:
Initial Dose: 5-10 mg once daily, based on patient requirements.
Maintenance Dose: 10-20 mg once daily.
Maximum Dose: 40 mg/day in high-risk patients, as directed by a physician.
Take at any time of day, with or without food.
Interaction:
Concurrent use with cyclosporine, gemfibrozil, or protease inhibitors increases the risk of myopathy.
Anticoagulants like warfarin may have enhanced effects when used with rosuvastatin.
Avoid excessive grapefruit juice consumption.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin or any inactive ingredient in the formulation.
Patients with active liver disease or elevated liver enzymes.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, muscle pain, nausea, and constipation.
Serious: Myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, and liver dysfunction (rare).
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy as it may harm the fetus.
Breastfeeding mothers should not use this medication.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of liver enzymes and lipid profiles is recommended during therapy.
Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease or significant alcohol consumption.
