ZYDUS 400 MG Tablet is indicated for the treatment of:

Community-acquired pneumonia.
Acute bacterial sinusitis.
Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Skin and soft tissue infections.
Other bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Pharmacology:
Gatifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This prevents bacterial replication and transcription, leading to bacterial cell death. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Dosage & Administration:

Adults: 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the infection type and severity.
Children: Not typically recommended for pediatric use without specific medical advice.
Can be taken with or without food. Avoid taking with antacids or supplements containing magnesium, calcium, or iron.

Interaction:

Avoid concurrent use with antacids, sucralfate, or supplements containing magnesium, aluminum, calcium, or iron.
Caution with other drugs that prolong QT intervals, such as antiarrhythmic agents or tricyclic antidepressants.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Gatifloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.
History of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use.
Avoid in patients with a history of QT prolongation or severe cardiac conditions.

Side Effects:

Common: Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or abdominal pain.
Rare: Tendinitis, tendon rupture, hypersensitivity reactions, or QT prolongation.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus.
Not recommended during lactation unless absolutely necessary; consult a physician.

Precautions & Warnings:

Use cautiously in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Discontinue use at the first sign of rash or allergic reaction.
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or UV light due to the risk of photosensitivity.
May cause dizziness or drowsiness; caution when driving or operating machinery.
