Indications:
ROZITH 250 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Upper and lower respiratory tract infections, including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
Skin and soft tissue infections.
ENT infections, such as sinusitis and otitis media.
Some gastrointestinal and urogenital infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Pharmacology:
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and preventing bacterial growth. It is effective against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults and Adolescents:
500 mg on the first day, followed by 250 mg once daily for the next 4 days.
Can be taken with or without food. Take the tablet with water and avoid splitting or crushing it.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, reducing azithromycin absorption.
Concomitant use with ergot derivatives increases the risk of ergot toxicity.
Can potentiate the effects of anticoagulants like warfarin.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or other macrolide antibiotics.
Severe hepatic impairment or jaundice caused by previous azithromycin use.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and headache.
Rare but serious: QT prolongation, allergic reactions, hepatotoxicity.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Lactation: Use with caution as azithromycin may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with liver dysfunction or preexisting heart conditions.
Discontinue immediately if severe allergic reactions or Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea occurs.
