VORIFAST 200 MG TABLET is indicated for the treatment of severe fungal infections, including invasive aspergillosis, systemic candidiasis, and infections caused by emerging fungal pathogens.
Pharmacology:
Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal agent that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450 enzymes, effectively reducing ergosterol production. This compromises the fungal cell membrane integrity, halting growth and proliferation.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults:

Loading Dose (first 24 hours): 400 mg twice daily.

Maintenance Dose: 200 mg twice daily. Adjust dose based on clinical response.

Children (2-12 years): Weight-based dosing determined by the physician.

Take at least one hour before or after meals for optimal absorption.
Interaction:

Avoid co-administration with drugs like rifampin, carbamazepine, or long-acting barbiturates as they reduce Voriconazole efficacy.

Voriconazole may increase levels of medications like warfarin, phenytoin, and sulfonylureas, requiring dose adjustments.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Voriconazole or any excipients.

Concurrent use of contraindicated drugs with significant interaction potential.
Side Effects:

Common: Temporary visual disturbances, skin rash, nausea, and headache.

Serious: Hepatic dysfunction, QT prolongation, severe hypersensitivity reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary, as it may pose risks to the fetus.

Not recommended for breastfeeding mothers; discontinue breastfeeding if treatment is essential.
