Pharmacology:
Meropenem is a carbapenem-class beta-lactam antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins, resulting in bacterial cell death. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults:
500 mg every 8 hours IV for most infections.
Severe infections: dosage may be increased up to 1 g every 8 hours.
Infuse over 15–30 minutes. Dosage must be adjusted in patients with renal impairment.

Probenecid may increase Meropenem levels.
May reduce plasma concentration of valproic acid.
Use with caution with other nephrotoxic drugs.

Monitor renal function, especially in elderly or renally impaired patients.
Prolonged use may lead to secondary infections or resistant organisms.
