VORIFAST 100 MG TABLET is indicated for the treatment of invasive fungal infections, including invasive aspergillosis, systemic candidiasis, and infections caused by other rare fungi.
Pharmacology:
Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal that inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme, leading to a reduction in ergosterol synthesis. This disrupts the fungal cell membrane, effectively stopping fungal growth.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 200 mg twice daily (loading dose for the first 24 hours: 400 mg twice daily). Adjust dose as required by the physician.
Children (2-12 years): Dosage is weight-based and must be determined by a healthcare provider.
Administer at least one hour before or after meals.
Interaction:
Avoid concurrent use with drugs like rifampin, carbamazepine, or barbiturates as they can reduce Voriconazole effectiveness.
Voriconazole may increase the plasma levels of certain medications, including warfarin and phenytoin.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Voriconazole or any of its components.
Concomitant use with drugs that are contraindicated due to potential for severe interactions.
Side Effects:
Common: Visual disturbances, rash, headache, and nausea.
Serious: Hepatotoxicity, QT prolongation, or hypersensitivity reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary due to potential risks to the fetus.
Use caution in lactating mothers as the drug may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function tests regularly during treatment.
Use cautiously in patients with pre-existing liver or kidney conditions.
Avoid direct sunlight exposure as photosensitivity reactions may occur.
Therapeutic Class:
Systemic antifungal agents.
