Indications:
FUROTIL 250 MG is indicated for the treatment of:

Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, sinusitis)
-
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
-
Skin and soft tissue infections
-
Tonsillitis and pharyngitis
-
Gonorrhea
-
Lyme disease (early stage)
Pharmacology:
FUROTIL contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is active against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults: Usually 250–500 mg twice daily depending on infection severity

Children: Dose adjusted by weight, typically 10–15 mg/kg twice daily

Should be taken after food for optimal absorption

Follow physician’s dosage and duration strictly
Interaction:

May interact with probenecid (increases cefuroxime level)
-
Avoid antacids within 2 hours of taking the drug

May reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives
Contraindications:

Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or beta-lactam antibiotics

Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
Side Effects:

Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain

Less common: Headache, rash, yeast infections

Rare: Anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Classified as Pregnancy Category B: Use if clearly needed and prescribed

Safe during lactation, but monitor for diarrhea or thrush in infants
Precautions & Warnings:

Use with caution in patients with history of allergies, especially to penicillin

Long-term use may lead to secondary infection

Complete full course even if symptoms improve early
