Indications:
FUROTIL 500 MG is indicated for:

Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis)

Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Skin and soft tissue infections
-
Tonsillitis and pharyngitis
-
Gonorrhea (uncomplicated)
-
Lyme disease (early stage)
Pharmacology:
FUROTIL 500 contains Cefuroxime Axetil, a prodrug of cefuroxime. It’s a second-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults: 500 mg twice daily, depending on infection type and severity

Children: Not typically recommended at this dose without medical supervision

Should be taken after food to enhance absorption

Complete full course as prescribed
Interaction:

Probenecid increases serum concentration of cefuroxime

Antacids and H2-receptor blockers may reduce absorption

May interfere with urine glucose tests and oral contraceptives
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or beta-lactam antibiotics

Caution in patients with renal impairment
Side Effects:

Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort

Less common: Dizziness, rash, candidiasis

Rare: Allergic reactions, pseudomembranous colitis
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Category B: No proven risk in humans, but should be used only when clearly needed

Excreted in breast milk in small amounts—use with caution during lactation

Long-term use may cause superinfection
