RESIDON 2 MG is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, manic or mixed episodes of bipolar disorder, and irritability in autism spectrum disorders.
Pharmacology:
Risperidone is a dopamine and serotonin receptor antagonist, primarily acting on the central nervous system. It helps to balance neurotransmitters, reducing psychotic symptoms and stabilizing mood.
Dosage and Administration:
Schizophrenia: Initial dosage of 1-2 mg once or twice daily, titrated based on response.
Bipolar Disorder: Typically starts at 2-3 mg per day.
Taken with or without food, preferably at the same time daily.
Dosage adjustments should only be made under medical supervision.
Interaction:
May enhance the sedative effects of other CNS depressants.
Interaction with antihypertensives may lead to increased risk of hypotension.
Avoid combining with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers without consulting a physician.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Risperidone or any tablet ingredients.
Severe renal or hepatic impairment unless under close medical monitoring.
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, fatigue, increased appetite, and mild weight gain.
Rare but serious: Tardive dyskinesia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, or severe allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy should be based on the potential benefits outweighing risks.
Not recommended during breastfeeding, as it may be excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Patients with a history of cardiovascular disorders, seizures, or metabolic disturbances should use with caution.
Monitor for potential metabolic changes, including blood sugar levels and cholesterol.
