XELPID 10 MG TABLET is indicated for the management of primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and as a preventive therapy to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in at-risk patients.
Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. It reduces LDL-C, total cholesterol, and triglycerides while modestly increasing HDL-C.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Start with 5-10 mg once daily, and adjust the dose up to 20 mg based on patient response and medical advice.
Pediatric Use: As directed by a healthcare provider.
Take with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
Increased risk of myopathy when taken with fibrates or niacin.
May interact with anticoagulants like warfarin, requiring close monitoring.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin or any excipient.
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes.
Pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and muscle aches.
Rare: Severe myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, or liver enzyme abnormalities.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Adequate contraception should be used during treatment for women of childbearing potential.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function tests before initiation and periodically thereafter.
Use cautiously in patients with a history of liver disease or heavy alcohol consumption.
Discontinue if muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs.
