Indications:
EMISTAT FT 4 MG is indicated for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and postoperative recovery.
Pharmacology:
EMISTAT FT contains Ondansetron, a selective serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the action of serotonin at receptor sites in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and gastrointestinal tract to prevent emesis. The fast-dissolving formulation ensures quicker onset of action.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults and adolescents (≥12 years): 4–8 mg, taken 30 minutes before chemotherapy or radiation. May repeat every 8 hours if needed.
Children (4–11 years): 4 mg dose depending on body weight and doctor’s advice.
Place the tablet on the tongue; it will dissolve without water. Do not chew or swallow whole.
Interaction:
Avoid using with apomorphine. May interact with phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin, and drugs that prolong QT interval. Caution with serotonergic agents.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Ondansetron or other 5-HT3 antagonists. Contraindicated with concurrent apomorphine use.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, fatigue, dizziness, constipation.
Rare: Hypersensitivity, QT prolongation, extrapyramidal reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Caution is advised during lactation due to limited data on excretion in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in patients with liver disease, electrolyte imbalance, or cardiac conditions. ECG monitoring recommended in high-risk patients.
Therapeutic Class:
Antiemetic – 5-HT3 receptor antagonist
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Keep away from light and moisture. Keep out of children’s reach.
