Indications:
NEURAL 0.5 MG is indicated for:
Seizure disorders (including absence and myoclonic seizures)
Panic disorder
Acute anxiety episodes
Adjunct in certain epileptic syndromes
Pharmacology:
Clonazepam belongs to the benzodiazepine class. It enhances GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) activity in the brain, which has calming effects and helps control seizures and reduce anxiety.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults (seizure): Initial dose 0.5 mg three times daily; maintenance dose based on response.
Panic disorder: Start with 0.25–0.5 mg once or twice daily.
Elderly or debilitated: Lower starting doses recommended.
Note: Should be taken with water; may be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
CNS depressants (alcohol, opioids, other benzodiazepines) may enhance sedation.
May interact with phenytoin, carbamazepine, and other anticonvulsants.
Caution with SSRIs or tricyclic antidepressants.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Clonazepam or other benzodiazepines
Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
Severe liver disease
Myasthenia gravis
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, coordination issues
Serious: Respiratory depression, dependency, memory impairment, mood changes, withdrawal symptoms on discontinuation
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Category D — may cause fetal harm. Should be avoided during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Excreted in breast milk; avoid during breastfeeding or use with caution.
Precautions & Warnings:
Risk of dependence and withdrawal symptoms with long-term use
Avoid abrupt discontinuation
Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially in early treatment
Not recommended for patients with history of substance abuse
