XELPID 20 MG TABLET is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and as a preventive measure to reduce cardiovascular events in high-risk patients.
Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver. It effectively lowers LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides while modestly raising HDL cholesterol levels.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Start with 10 mg once daily; the usual maintenance dose is 20 mg daily. The dose may be adjusted up to 40 mg in severe cases, as directed by a physician.
Take with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
Increased risk of myopathy with fibrates or niacin.
May enhance the effects of anticoagulants like warfarin, necessitating monitoring of INR levels.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin or its components.
Active liver disease or persistent elevation of liver enzymes.
Pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common: Muscle pain, headache, dizziness, nausea, and constipation.
Rare: Myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, and severe liver dysfunction.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy. Effective contraception is advised for women of childbearing age.
Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Periodic liver function tests are advised.
Caution in patients with a history of liver disease, kidney impairment, or heavy alcohol use.
Discontinue use if symptoms of muscle damage occur.
