Indications:
HUMALOG is indicated for:

The treatment of adults and children with diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2)

Rapid control of postprandial blood glucose levels

Often used in combination with intermediate- or long-acting insulin
Pharmacology:
HUMALOG contains Insulin Lispro, a recombinant DNA-derived human insulin analog.
It is rapidly absorbed and begins acting within 15 minutes of injection.

Onset: ~15 minutes

Peak: 30 to 90 minutes

Duration: ~3 to 5 hours
It mimics physiological insulin secretion in response to meals.
Dosage & Administration:

Administer subcutaneously within 15 minutes before a meal or immediately after a meal

Individualized dose based on metabolic needs, blood glucose monitoring, and doctor's recommendation

Suitable for use with insulin pens compatible with 3 mL cartridges
-
Do not mix with other insulins in the cartridge
Interaction:

Beta-blockers may mask signs of hypoglycemia
-
Alcohol, MAO inhibitors, and ACE inhibitors may increase hypoglycemic risk

Thiazides, corticosteroids, and sympathomimetics may decrease insulin effectiveness
Contraindications:

Hypoglycemia

Hypersensitivity to insulin lispro or any component of the formulation
Side Effects:

Common: Hypoglycemia, injection site reactions, lipodystrophy

Rare: Allergic reactions, insulin resistance, edema
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Can be used in pregnancy with proper glycemic control

Safe for lactating mothers but requires monitoring and possible dose adjustment
Precautions & Warnings:

Rotate injection sites to prevent lipodystrophy

Dose adjustment may be needed during illness, stress, or with changes in diet/activity

Do not share cartridges between patients due to risk of infection
