Indications:
ORICEF 1 GM is indicated for the treatment of:
Lower respiratory tract infections
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Skin and soft tissue infections
Intra-abdominal infections
Bone and joint infections
Bacterial septicemia
Meningitis
Gonorrhea
Surgical prophylaxis
Pharmacology:
Ceftriaxone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). It is highly stable against most beta-lactamases and effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 1–2 g once daily or in two divided doses
Severe infections: Up to 4 g/day
Children: 50–75 mg/kg/day
Administer via intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection
Reconstitute with appropriate diluent before use
Interaction:
May increase nephrotoxicity when used with aminoglycosides
May increase bleeding risk with anticoagulants
Calcium-containing IV solutions must not be co-administered in neonates
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
Known allergy to penicillins (cross-reactivity risk)
Hyperbilirubinemic neonates (risk of kernicterus)
Side Effects:
Common: Diarrhea, rash, pain at injection site
Less common: Eosinophilia, elevated liver enzymes
Rare: Anaphylaxis, pseudomembranous colitis, hemolytic anemia
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category B: Generally considered safe
Excreted in breast milk; use with caution in lactating mothers
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal and hepatic function during prolonged therapy
Discontinue if signs of hypersensitivity occur
Caution in patients with history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis
Ensure adequate hydration during high-dose therapy

Store below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. After reconstitution, use within the recommended timeframe. Keep out of reach of children.
