Indications:
HUMALOG MIX 50 is indicated for:

The management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Patients requiring both rapid and intermediate-acting insulin
-
Blood sugar control before meals and between meals
Pharmacology:
HUMALOG MIX 50 is a biphasic insulin formulation containing:
-
50% Insulin Lispro (rapid-acting)
-
50% Insulin Lispro Protamine (intermediate-acting)
Onset: ~15 minutes
Peak: 1 to 6 hours
Duration: Up to 12–16 hours
This combination provides both quick postprandial glucose control and basal insulin coverage.
Dosage & Administration:

Administer subcutaneously within 15 minutes before a meal

Individual dose determined by physician based on glucose levels

Use with compatible insulin pens (3 mL cartridge)

Do not administer intravenously or intramuscularly
-
Do not mix with other insulins in the cartridge
Interaction:

Hypoglycemic effect may be increased by alcohol, ACE inhibitors, MAOIs, and beta-blockers
-
Effect may be reduced by corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, and thyroid hormones
-
Close monitoring and dose adjustment needed with interacting medications
Contraindications:

Hypoglycemia

Allergy to Insulin Lispro or any excipient in the formulation
Side Effects:

Common: Hypoglycemia, injection site redness/swelling, lipodystrophy

Rare: Systemic allergic reactions, insulin resistance, rash, edema

Precautions & Warnings:

Do not use if the cartridge contains clumps or white particles

Rotate injection sites to prevent skin issues

Blood glucose monitoring is essential

Never share cartridges between patients

Not suitable for use in insulin pumps
