Indications:
NAPRYN 500 MG is indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, tendinitis, bursitis, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), and musculoskeletal pain.
Pharmacology:
Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by blocking cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to reduced inflammation, pain, and fever.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 500 mg initially, followed by 250 mg every 6–8 hours as needed. In some cases, 500 mg twice daily may be used. Take with food or milk to minimize GI discomfort. Do not exceed 1000 mg/day unless advised by a doctor.
Interaction:
May interact with warfarin, antihypertensives (ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers), diuretics, lithium, methotrexate, and other NSAIDs. Combining with alcohol increases GI risk.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Naproxen or NSAIDs. Not to be used in patients with active peptic ulcer, GI bleeding, or severe renal/hepatic impairment.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, indigestion, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. Serious risks include gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, cardiovascular events, and renal toxicity with prolonged use.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Avoid use especially in the third trimester due to fetal risk. Use during breastfeeding only if clearly needed and under doctor supervision.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal ulcers, asthma, hypertension, heart, liver, or kidney disease. Prolonged use requires regular monitoring.
Therapeutic Class:
Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Storage Conditions:
