Indications:
CANDINIL 50MG is indicated for:

  • Treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis (oral thrush).

  • Vaginal candidiasis.

  • Fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes.

  • Fungal prophylaxis in immunocompromised individuals.

Pharmacology:
CANDINIL contains Fluconazole, a triazole antifungal agent. It works by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P450 enzymes, impairing the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This action disrupts the cell membrane's integrity, leading to fungal cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Dosage:

    • Adults: 50 mg once daily, dose duration depends on the severity of infection (typically 2-4 weeks).

    • Children: Dosage based on body weight and infection severity (usually 3-6 mg/kg/day).

  • Administration:

    • Swallow the capsule whole with water.

    • Can be taken with or without food.

Interaction:

  • Potential interaction with anticoagulants, increasing bleeding risk.

  • May interact with drugs like phenytoin, cyclosporine, or rifampin, altering their plasma levels.

  • Avoid use with drugs that prolong the QT interval.

Contraindications:

  • Known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or other azole antifungals.

  • Concurrent use with medications that prolong the QT interval, such as terfenadine or cisapride.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Headache, nausea, abdominal discomfort, rash.

  • Rare: Hepatotoxicity, severe skin reactions, or QT prolongation.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Use is not recommended, especially during the first trimester, due to potential teratogenic effects.

  • Lactation: Use with caution as Fluconazole is excreted in breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Monitor liver function in patients undergoing prolonged therapy.

  • Caution in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustment may be required.

  • Avoid use in patients with known electrolyte imbalances or cardiac arrhythmias.

Therapeutic Class:
