Indications:
OXOFYLINE 100 ML is indicated for:
Bronchial asthma
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Chronic bronchitis
Other obstructive airway diseases
Pharmacology:
Doxofylline is a methylxanthine derivative that acts as a bronchodilator. It inhibits phosphodiesterase enzymes, increasing intracellular cAMP levels, which relax bronchial smooth muscles. Unlike theophylline, it has fewer cardiovascular and gastrointestinal side effects.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 10 ml (containing 400 mg Doxofylline) twice daily or as prescribed
Children (based on weight and age): Typically lower doses; follow physician's advice
Best taken after meals
Shake well before use
Interaction:
Caution with other xanthines or stimulants
May potentiate effects of beta-agonists
Reduced clearance in patients on macrolide antibiotics or fluoroquinolones
Alcohol may increase toxicity
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Doxofylline or related compounds
Acute myocardial infarction
Severe hypotension
Active peptic ulcer
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, headache, restlessness
Less common: Palpitations, insomnia, tremor
Rare: Arrhythmias, seizures (in overdose or renal impairment)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed; consult a physician
Unknown whether excreted in breast milk; caution advised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid use in patients with seizure disorders
Monitor cardiac patients for arrhythmias
Use cautiously in hepatic and renal impairment
Avoid smoking as it reduces efficacy
