Indications:
CLACIDO 1GM Tablet is indicated for:

  • Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia).

  • Skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with other medications for the treatment of duodenal ulcers.

  • Mycobacterial infections, including Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC).

Pharmacology:
CLACIDO contains Clarithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This action disrupts bacterial growth and replication, making it effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Dosage:

    • Adults: 500 mg to 1 gm daily in divided doses, depending on the severity of the infection.

    • Helicobacter pylori Eradication: 500 mg twice daily in combination with a proton pump inhibitor and amoxicillin.

  • Administration:

    • Swallow the tablet whole with water.

    • Can be taken with or without food.

Interaction:

  • Avoid concurrent use with medications like statins (e.g., simvastatin, lovastatin) due to the risk of myopathy.

  • Increases the levels of warfarin, digoxin, and certain antiarrhythmics, which may necessitate dose adjustments.

  • Avoid use with ergotamine or dihydroergotamine due to the risk of ergot toxicity.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Clarithromycin, erythromycin, or other macrolide antibiotics.

  • Patients with a history of QT prolongation or ventricular arrhythmias.

  • Severe hepatic or renal impairment.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, altered taste, and abdominal discomfort.

  • Rare: Hepatotoxicity, severe allergic reactions, or cardiac arrhythmias.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Use only if the benefits outweigh the risks, particularly during the first trimester.

  • Lactation: Use with caution as Clarithromycin is excreted in breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Monitor liver and kidney function during prolonged use.

  • Use cautiously in patients with existing cardiac conditions or electrolyte imbalances.

  • Not recommended for use in children below 12 years without medical advice.

Therapeutic Class:
