Indications:
HUMALOG MIX 50/50 KwikPen is indicated for:

Adults and children with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus

Glycemic control requiring both rapid and basal insulin action

Pre-meal and sustained glucose control throughout the day
Pharmacology:
This insulin pen contains:
-
50% Insulin Lispro – a rapid-acting insulin analog
-
50% Insulin Lispro Protamine – an intermediate-acting insulin
This biphasic formulation provides a dual-phase insulin response:

Onset: ~15 minutes
-
Peak: 1–6 hours
-
Duration: Up to 12–16 hours
Insulin Lispro is bioengineered via recombinant DNA technology.
Dosage & Administration:

Subcutaneous injection within 15 minutes before a meal
-
Dosage individualized based on blood sugar levels
-
Pen delivers insulin in 1-unit increments, up to 60 units per dose
-
Rotate injection sites regularly
-
Do not inject intravenously or use in insulin pumps
Interaction:
-
Enhanced hypoglycemia risk with: alcohol, MAOIs, ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers
-
Reduced effect with: corticosteroids, diuretics, oral contraceptives

Requires frequent glucose monitoring when used with interacting medications
Contraindications:

Hypoglycemia

Hypersensitivity to Insulin Lispro or any component of the pen
Side Effects:

Common: Hypoglycemia, injection site irritation, lipodystrophy

Rare: Allergic reactions, rash, edema, insulin resistance

May be used during breastfeeding under supervision
Precautions & Warnings:

Do not share pens between patients

Use only as prescribed and do not skip meals after injection

Inspect insulin before use—should appear uniformly cloudy after gentle mixing

Monitor blood glucose regularly

Do not mix with other insulin in the same device

Storage Conditions:

Before use: Store in a refrigerator (2–8°C); do not freeze

In use: Store at room temperature (below 30°C); discard after 28 days
