Indications:
KETOALFA 600MG is indicated for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly in patients with reduced protein intake. It helps in delaying the progression of kidney failure by reducing nitrogen waste.
Pharmacology:
Ketoalfa is a keto acid analog of essential amino acids. It provides the building blocks for protein synthesis while reducing nitrogen intake and excretion, which benefits CKD patients with restricted protein diets.
Dosage & Administration:
Typically, 1 tablet per 5 kg body weight per day, divided into 3 doses with meals. Dosage may vary based on the patient's clinical condition.
Interaction:
Caution is advised when used with calcium supplements, vitamin D, and other drugs that affect serum phosphate or calcium levels.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hypersensitivity to any of the components, or severe hepatic insufficiency.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, and rarely, hypercalcemia.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use in pregnancy and lactation should be considered only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
