Indications:
Betaval N Cream is indicated for the treatment of superficial skin infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. It is also effective in conditions such as burns, wound healing, ulcerations, otitis externa, postoperative infections, neurodermatitis, and eczema. Additionally, it may be used as an adjunct to systemic steroid therapy in certain types of pyoderma.

Pharmacology:
Betamethasone is a potent topical corticosteroid that provides rapid relief in inflammatory dermatoses and treats psoriasis. Neomycin sulfate is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic effective against various gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens, including Proteus vulgaris and Staphylococcus aureus. The formulation ensures effective penetration and uniform distribution, making it suitable for application on hairy and intertriginous areas, as well as wet ulcerative skin conditions.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults: Apply a thin layer to the affected skin areas 3 to 4 times daily. In chronic conditions, gradually reduce the frequency of application until maintenance therapy is achieved, possibly as infrequently as once a week, or as directed by a physician.

  • Children: Not recommended for use in children under 1 year of age. For older children, treatment duration should not exceed 5 days unless otherwise advised by a physician.

Interaction:
No significant drug interactions have been reported with the combination of betamethasone valerate and neomycin sulfate in topical preparations.

Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components. Not to be used in cases of otitis externa with perforated eardrum or in skin lesions caused by viral or fungal infections.

Side Effects:
Generally well-tolerated. However, prolonged use or application over large areas may lead to systemic absorption causing side effects such as Cushing's syndrome, acne, skin thinning, and dilation of blood vessels, especially when used with occlusive dressings.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Extensive use during pregnancy is not recommended. The safety of this preparation during lactation has not been established; therefore, it should be used with caution.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Avoid prolonged use, especially on large surface areas.

  • Do not apply to the face, groin, or underarms unless directed by a physician.

  • Use with caution in pediatric patients due to the potential for systemic absorption.

  • Discontinue use if irritation or sensitization occurs.

Therapeutic Class:
Topical corticosteroid with antibiotic combination.

Storage Conditions:
Store at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
