Indications:
ESITA 10 MG is indicated for the treatment of:
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Social Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (off-label use)
Pharmacology:
Escitalopram, the active ingredient in ESITA, is a highly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It increases the level of serotonin in the synaptic cleft by blocking its reabsorption into the presynaptic neuron, thereby improving mood and reducing anxiety.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 10 mg once daily. May be increased to 20 mg after 1 week based on response.
Elderly or hepatic impairment: Starting dose 5 mg daily.
Take orally, with or without food. Should be taken at the same time each day.
Do not discontinue abruptly.
Interaction:
Avoid co-administration with MAO inhibitors. May interact with anticoagulants, NSAIDs, serotonergic drugs (risk of serotonin syndrome), and QT-prolonging agents.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram.
Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of discontinuing them.
Long QT syndrome.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, dry mouth, headache, insomnia, fatigue.
Less common: Sexual dysfunction, weight changes, sweating.
Rare: Serotonin syndrome, suicidal ideation, hyponatremia, QT prolongation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Escitalopram is excreted in breast milk; caution is advised while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially in young adults during initial treatment. Use caution in patients with a history of seizures, bipolar disorder, or liver/renal impairment. Taper dosage gradually when discontinuing.
