Indications:
ROVAST 5 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Management of primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia.
Lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
Increasing HDL cholesterol to reduce cardiovascular risks.
Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin, the active ingredient in ROVAST 5 MG Tablet, inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme critical in cholesterol synthesis. This leads to a reduction in cholesterol levels, thereby lowering the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases.
Dosage and Administration:
Starting Dose: 5 mg once daily.
Maintenance Dose: 5-10 mg daily, adjusted based on patient response and lipid levels.
Can be taken at any time of the day, with or without food.
Interaction:
Increased risk of myopathy when used with cyclosporine, gemfibrozil, or certain protease inhibitors.
Concurrent use with anticoagulants like warfarin may heighten bleeding risks.
Avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit juice.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to rosuvastatin or any of its components.
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of hepatic transaminases.
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and muscle aches.
Rare but serious: Myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, and liver function abnormalities.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Not safe during pregnancy due to potential harm to the fetus.
Lactation: Contraindicated as it may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of liver function and lipid levels is advised.
Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease or those who consume significant amounts of alcohol.
