Indications:
CLONATRIL 1MG Tablet is indicated for:
Anxiety disorders and panic attacks.
Seizure disorders, including epilepsy and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Adjunct therapy for acute manic episodes and agitation.
Pharmacology:
Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine that enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter responsible for reducing excessive neural activity. This results in a calming effect on the brain, helping manage anxiety, panic disorders, and seizures effectively.
Dosage and Administration:
Dosage:
Adults: 0.5 mg to 1 mg daily, increasing gradually to a maximum of 20 mg/day as needed.
Children: Dosage is weight-dependent, usually starting at 0.01–0.03 mg/kg/day.
Administration:
Take the tablet orally with a glass of water.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
Avoid combining with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants.
May interact with medications like phenytoin, carbamazepine, and other drugs metabolized by CYP450 enzymes.
Potentiates the sedative effects of opioids.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Clonazepam or other benzodiazepines.
Severe respiratory impairment or hepatic dysfunction.
History of substance abuse or benzodiazepine dependency.
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, and reduced coordination.
Rare: Respiratory depression, dependency with long-term use, or cognitive impairment.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Avoid use unless absolutely necessary, as it may harm the fetus.
Lactation: Caution is advised as Clonazepam is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
Use cautiously in patients with respiratory issues or a history of substance dependency.
Prolonged use may result in tolerance and dependency; short-term use is preferred.
