Treatment of mild to moderate hypertension.
Management of chronic stable angina and variant angina (Prinzmetal's angina).
Controlling heart rate in supraventricular tachycardia and atrial fibrillation/flutter.
Diltiazem, a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits calcium ion influx in cardiac and vascular smooth muscle. This action decreases myocardial oxygen demand, increases oxygen delivery, and reduces systemic vascular resistance, which is beneficial in hypertension and angina.
Hypertension: 30-60 mg twice daily, titrated based on clinical response.
Angina: 30-90 mg three to four times daily, adjusted as needed.
Administration: Take orally with water, with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Drug Interactions:
Enhanced effects when used with beta-blockers, digoxin, or antihypertensive agents.
Interactions with CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers can alter drug levels.
Food Interactions: Avoid grapefruit juice as it may increase drug concentration.
Severe hypotension (systolic BP <90 mmHg).
Second- or third-degree AV block without a pacemaker.
Recent myocardial infarction with pulmonary congestion.
Common side effects:
Dizziness, headache, and nausea.
Fatigue, flushing.
Rare or severe side effects:

Lactation: Diltiazem is excreted in breast milk; consult a healthcare provider before use.
Monitor heart rate and blood pressure regularly.
Use cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent rebound angina or hypertension.
Calcium channel blocker (non-dihydropyridine).
Store at room temperature below 30°C.
Protect from direct sunlight and moisture.
Keep out of the reach of children.
