Indications:
ROTATEQ 2 ML Vaccine is indicated for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis caused by G1, G2, G3, G4, and G9 serotypes of rotavirus in infants and young children. It is typically included in routine immunization schedules.
Pharmacology:
ROTATEQ is a live, attenuated vaccine containing five reassorted rotaviruses. It works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies that protect against rotavirus infections, which are a leading cause of severe diarrhea and dehydration in children.
Dosage and Administration:
Dose: Administered orally as 2 mL per dose.
Schedule: Typically given in 3 doses, at 6 to 12 weeks of age, followed by subsequent doses at 4-week intervals.
The complete series should be administered by 32 weeks of age.
Interaction:
ROTATEQ Vaccine can be given concurrently with other routine childhood vaccines without significant interactions.
Avoid administration in conjunction with immunosuppressive therapy.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine.
History of intussusception.
Severe immunodeficiency conditions, including severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID).
Side Effects:
Common: Irritability, mild diarrhea, or vomiting.
Rare but serious: Intussusception, severe allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not applicable, as this vaccine is intended for infants and young children.
Precautions & Warnings:
