Indications:
OXOFYLINE 200 MG is indicated for:
Bronchial asthma
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Chronic bronchitis
Other chronic obstructive airway conditions
Pharmacology:
Doxofylline is a xanthine derivative and a bronchodilator. It works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase (PDE) enzymes, especially PDE3 and PDE4, increasing intracellular cAMP. This results in relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles and ease in airflow. Compared to theophylline, it has a lower incidence of adverse effects.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 200–400 mg orally twice daily or as directed by physician
Best taken after food
Dosage may vary based on clinical condition, age, liver, and renal function
Interaction:
May enhance the effect of β2-agonists
Risk of toxicity increases when combined with other methylxanthines
Use cautiously with drugs like erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, or cimetidine
Alcohol increases the risk of side effects
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Doxofylline or other xanthines
Acute myocardial infarction
Hypotension
Active peptic ulcer disease
Seizure disorders
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, headache, restlessness, gastric irritation
Less common: Palpitations, dizziness, muscle cramps
Rare: Cardiac arrhythmia, convulsions (especially in overdose)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed
Caution advised while breastfeeding; consult physician
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid use in patients with epilepsy or seizure history
Monitor elderly and those with liver/kidney impairment
Smoking reduces drug effectiveness
Do not crush or chew extended-release tablets
