Pharmacology:
DISYS 160MG Tablet contains Valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor. This action leads to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and decreased blood pressure, improving cardiovascular outcomes.
Dosage & Administration:
-
Hypertension: 80–160 mg once daily; maximum dose 320 mg/day.

Heart failure: Start with 40 mg twice daily; may increase to 160 mg twice daily.

Post-myocardial infarction: Initiate with 20 mg twice daily; target dose 160 mg twice daily if tolerated.

Administer with or without food; however, taking without food may enhance absorption.
Interaction:
-
Caution with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes containing potassium due to risk of hyperkalemia.

NSAIDs may reduce the antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of renal impairment.

No significant interactions with drugs like Cimetidine, Warfarin, Furosemide, Digoxin, Atenolol, Indomethacin, Hydrochlorothiazide, Amlodipine, and Glibenclamide.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Valsartan or any component of the formulation.

Severe hepatic impairment, biliary cirrhosis, or cholestasis.

Pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters.
Side Effects:

Common: Headache, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal pain, cough, diarrhea, nausea.

Rare: Hyperkalemia, hypotension, renal impairment, rash, muscle cramps, back pain, insomnia, vertigo.
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Contraindicated due to risk of fetal injury or death.

Lactation: Not recommended; unknown if excreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings:

Monitor renal function and serum potassium levels, especially in patients with renal impairment.

Use caution in patients with heart failure or post-myocardial infarction.

Not recommended for pediatric use; safety and efficacy not established.
