Indications:
HYPNOCUM 7.5 mg is indicated for:

Short-term treatment of insomnia

Difficulty falling asleep, frequent nocturnal awakenings, or early awakening

Situational, temporary, or chronic insomnia under medical guidance
Pharmacology:
Zopiclone is a cyclopyrrolone class hypnotic. It acts by binding to the GABA-A receptor complex and enhancing GABA-mediated inhibition, leading to sedation, anxiolysis, and muscle relaxation.

Onset: ~30 minutes

Half-life: 5–7 hours

Duration of action: Up to 8 hours
It reduces sleep latency and improves sleep maintenance without significant hangover effect in most patients.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults: 7.5 mg orally at bedtime

Elderly or hepatic impairment: Start with 3.75 mg
-
Maximum duration of use: 2–4 weeks

Swallow tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew
-
Ensure 7–8 hours of potential sleep time after taking
Interaction:

Potentiated CNS depression with: alcohol, opioids, antipsychotics, antidepressants, antihistamines

Metabolism affected by CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole) and inducers (e.g., rifampicin)

Avoid co-administration with other sedatives unless supervised
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Zopiclone

Severe respiratory insufficiency

Sleep apnea syndrome

Myasthenia gravis

Children and adolescents under 18 years
Side Effects:

Common: Bitter/metallic taste, drowsiness, dry mouth

Less common: Headache, dizziness, GI upset

Rare: Memory impairment, hallucinations, dependence (with long-term use)
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Not recommended unless absolutely necessary; possible risk of neonatal withdrawal or respiratory depression

Lactation: Avoid use; Zopiclone passes into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings:

Use with caution in patients with depression, substance abuse history, or hepatic impairment

Risk of dependency and withdrawal symptoms with prolonged use

Do not operate machinery or drive after taking

Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration

Gradual dose tapering advised when discontinuing
